Jairam N Menon, author of Masala Chai for The Soul in the centre

WITTY OR HUMOROUS? TRY BOTH FOR SIZE!

Wikipedia defines Wodehouseian as ‘the ability to effortlessly expand characters, trivialities, and plots and exaggerate the mundane to great comic or catastrophic effect.’ Well, that’s what Jairam N Menon has achieved in his book, “Masala Chai for The Soul’ — a series of witty pieces on the vagaries of human nature. The facility to make words do his bidding, the turn of phrase, and an understanding of human foibles are Jairam’s for the asking.
Actor Naseeruddin Shah hails the book as ‘Hilariously tongue-in-cheek’.
Brand Strategy Coach and best-selling author Ambi Parameswaran says, ‘Jairam has brewed a great cup of tea with some amazing masala ingredients.’
I picked up an author-signed copy at the book’s launch on Sunday, 14 January, at The Godrej Theatre, NCPA.
Here’s a sample: To clinch arguments or appear knowledgeable, borrowed wisdom is your best ally(on the subject of quotation marks).
Though the title is ‘Masala Chai for The Soul’, the short chapters in the book are like having bhujia in between sips of chai. My recommendation for whatever it’s worth: get a copy for yourself. It is money well spent.
